Back when I was a pre-teen, one of my favorite things to do was design fashion. I had pages and pages of coordinated outfits (80's style, of course), but somewhere along the way, someone convinced me that I was the musically inclined one, and Jen was the artistic one.
Bullshit!
Today when she, Tim, Devlin and I went to You Do The Dishes, I picked out two things: a wine glass holder that sits over the top of a wine bottle, and a sushi dipping sauce bowl. I put Sally from NBC freehand on one side of the wine glass holder and a tombstone with a bottle of deadly nightshade on top of it on the other, and then filled in all the gaps with stitches to mirror the ones on Sally. It really turned out better than I could have hoped.
I have the feeling that when I get this job at USF, I'll be spending a lot of money at YDTD.
The second thing I did has a background story. Last Saturday, I asked David why he was on gothicmatch, but I never see him wear gothic clothing. He said that he does wear gothic clothing when he goes to The Castle, and then pointed out that I was wearing a pink shirt. I said it was because pink was the new black...didn't he know?
Anyway, because he loves sushi, I got the sushi dipping sauce bowl, and put a beautiful cherry-blossom tree over most of it (pink blossoms, of course!) and then made up some symbols that looked Japanese and put them in the center. Below that, I wrote,
"Pink is the new black."
So it must be true. Not only is it written down, it also appears as an ancient Japanese proverb, according to the mystical sushi dipping sauce bowl.
Ok...so it's a cheesy gift, but I thought it would be functional as well as refer to an inside joke we have.
Too corny?
Regardless, now I have to go out with him again so that I can give it to him. But it won't be ready for 3-5 days, so I'm not gonna call him until after it's done.
After YDTD, we went to a place called CiCi's. Holy crap. They have the best cheese bread I've ever had. All in all, a great day, and I still have time to do some laundry before I head over to FS tonight.
